The Granite Belt Irrigation Project will deliver a 12,000 megalitre dam at Emu Swamp, south-west of Stanthorpe, and around 120km of pipeline to provide water to almost 50 agribusiness customers.

The project is currently in the pre-construction phase. All the detailed planning needed to finalise budgets and gain government approvals to allow construction to begin is happening now, while the main areas of focus in coming months will be:

  • Finalising the water deeds with involved irrigators
  • Negotiating with landholders in the pipeline corridor and inundation area for access to or procurement of land
  • Detailed planning and tendering to accurately cost the project
  • Procuring approvals necessary to enable construction.
